Aims: To examine the clinical signs, laboratory and radiographic findings, surgical technique, ureterolith composition, and post-operative outcomes in dogs managed surgically for ureterolithiasis to determine whether surgical removal of ureteroliths in dogs resulted in a positive clinical outcome.
The only clinical sign associated with unilateral urethroliths may be pain, which can be difficult to detect in dogs and cats. If these initial signs of ureteral obstruction do not lead to a diagnosis, unilateral ureteral obstruction may result in hydronephrosis with loss of function of the ipsilateral kidney.
Urolithiasis is a general term referring to the presence of a stone anywhere in the urinary tract. It can be modified to indicate the location of the stone: nephrolith = kidney stone, ureterolith = stone within ureter, cystolith or cystic calculus = bladder stone, urethrolith = stone within urethra.
18 Φεβ 2011 · Four dogs died or were euthanised because of azotaemia and clinical signs related to the urinary system or non-specific signs of illness (vomiting, lethargy) at 8, 90, 333 and 904 days post-operatively.
1 Απρ 2008 · The prevalence of renal and/or ureteral calculi in the dog is relatively uncommon (5-10% of all urinary tract calculi) when compared to calculi in the lower urinary tract. The true rate of occurrence is likely unknown and/or under diagnosed since renal calculi may not cause clinical signs.
Ultrasonographic examination of the bladder, ureters, and kidneys may be helpful in diagnosis of cystic, ureteral, or renal calculi. Differential diagnosis: Any disorder causing urinary obstruction, including urethral neoplasia, granulomatous urethritis, urethral stricture, and urethral trauma.
Uroliths originate from the kidneys and are associated with cystic uroliths and nephroliths in approximately half of cases. The same factors that predispose dogs to cystic calculi, eg infection associated with struvite stones, can result in urolithiasis Urolithiasis. If obstruction if relieved within 7 days - little or no permanent damage.
