In 2021, then-Assemblymember Steven Choi proposed a measure to make daylight saving time permanent (which, again, would still be contingent on changing federal law). The bill died before it reached the Senate.
On March 15, 2022, the US Senate unanimously passed the Sunshine Protection Act of 2021. But for the bill to become law, allowing states to observe DST year-round, it must also be approved by the House of Representatives and signed into law by the President. This has not happened yet.
