The Academic Performance Index (API) was a measurement of academic performance and progress of individual schools in California, United States. The API was one of the main components of the Public Schools Accountability Act passed by the California State Legislature in 1999.
27 Δεκ 2018 · The Public Schools Accountability Act (PSAA) of 1999 (Chapter 3, Statutes of 1999) required that the California Department of Education (CDE) annually calculate APIs for California public schools and to publish statewide school decile ranks.

There are several important differences between GreatSchools Ratings and California API Ranks: API Ranks are created by the California Department of Education. GreatSchools Ratings are created by GreatSchools.
The API Statewide Rank score ranks a school with all schools in California based on API score, while the API Similar Schools score ranks a school with 100 other schools in the state with similar demographic profiles (including parent education level, poverty level, student mobility, student ethnicity).
School performance data is from the California Department of Education, Academic Performance Index. The 1-10 numbers represent the statewide rank of the school, from lowest to highest. On this site, the ranking is the rounded average of the rankings from the last 3 years of API Base reports.
