Beyond that, caring for thyme is straightforward (average soil, average watering, and average temperatures, among them), making it a great indoor herb for novice gardeners to grow.

If you don't have a south-facing window that receives full sun, consider using grow lights to supplement the light. The herb doesn’t fare well in cold weather, and it prefers to be in dry conditions, so growing thyme indoors is ideal in most climates. It’s a compact plant, so it doesn’t take up much room indoors.
