Side effects. The side effects of radiotherapy include: reddening of the skin of the ear; sore and tender ear; swelling around the ear; Your doctor, nurse or radiographer will go through all the side effects with you and tell you what you can do to help relieve them. Rarely, the ear can become sore some time after treatment has finished.

Ear tumors can form on your outer ear (skin cancer), inner ear or middle ear. Most ear tumors are benign (not cancerous), but they may cause hearing loss. While small benign tumors may not require treatment unless they’re causing symptoms, all cancerous tumors do.
Ear cancer is when abnormal cells in the ear start to grow and divide in an uncontrolled way. Most of these cancers start in the skin of the outer ear. Between 6 and 10 out of 100 skin cancers (between 6 and 10%) develop on the outer ear.
