Overview. Oral cancer includes cancers of the mouth and the back of the throat. Oral cancers develop on the tongue, on the tissue lining the mouth and gums, under the tongue, at the base of the tongue, and the area of the throat at the back of the mouth.
Oral cavity (mouth) and oropharyngeal (throat) cancers might cause one or more of these signs or symptoms: A sore on the lip or in the mouth that doesn't heal. Pain in the mouth that doesn’t go away.
