The lieutenant governor, which in Texas is equivalent to president of the senate, is entitled to a fixed annual salary and a per diem pursuant to Article 3, Section 24 of the Texas Constitution. Functionally a state senator, the lieutenant governor is compensated in the amount and manner of a legislator rather than a state executive officer.
