GLOSSARY This glossary includes the terms defined in the ICF rules, and extended to include UK terms, the later are shown in italics. Sport The sport is canoeing, kayaking and all paddling activities.
The athlete must uses a specialized slalom canoe or kayak, which is designed to be lightweight and maneuverable. The boat must be propelled only by the athlete's paddle. Athletes must wear a helmet, a personal flotation device, and appropriate footwear while competing.
What are the rules of Canoe Slalom? In the traditional time challenge, courses are designed so leading athletes will complete them in between 90 and 110 seconds . The time penalty for touching a gate is two seconds, while missing a gate incurs a hefty 50-second sanction.
