An August 19, 2020 satellite image of the wildfires burning in Northern California, covering a significant portion of California and nearby states. The 2020 California wildfire season, part of the 2020 Western United States wildfire season, was a record-setting year for wildfires in California.
As of the end of the year, nearly 10,000 fires had burned over 4.2 million acres, more than 4% of the state's roughly 100 million acres of land, making 2020 the largest wildfire season recorded in California's modern history.

The CZU Lightning Complex fires were wildfires that burned in Northern California starting in August 2020. The fire complex consisted of fires in San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties, [1] including fires that had previously been separately tracked as the Warnella and Waddell fires. [2]
