27 Αυγ 2014 · I have a recipe calling for 8 oz of Weyermanns CaraAroma malt, and BeerSmith is telling me it is similar to a crystal 120. My LHBS doesn't have any crystal above 90, or CaraAroma. This may be obvious, but can I simply add more Crystal 90 to achieve the dark color?
19 Νοε 2018 · The only one that matches CaraAroma in terms of Lovibond is an Extra Dark Crystal Malt from Crisp Malting. Otherwise, I would give Special B a try, Special X ( Weyermann ), there is also one Special malt from BestMalt and Simpsons has an Extra Dark Crystal malt.

9 Νοε 2011 · I consider CaraAroma itself a sort of substitute for Special-B malt. You can use any crystal malt in the same Lovibond range of 120-150 to approximate the color but the British crystal and certainly the domestic versions are different in flavor.
My recipe also includes crystal 120L which I substituted with CaraAroma, which has the same level of roast. I have goldings hops and fermentis S-04 which are both style appropriate. Only Maris Otter and CaraAroma seems appealing right now.
2 Μαρ 2021 · In Europe, some of the malts in my local homebrew store don't always match up with these recipes and I often look for substitutions. I came across this chart and thought I would cross-post it and make some of my own adjustments for future reference.
My question is, when a recipe simply states "caramalt", which one should you use, cara-pils, cara-vienna, or cara-someother? I read this page to try to clarify things, but that only helped confirm that they are all similar.
