Many miracles have been reported due to the intercession of Our Lady of Consolation. The shrine is staffed by the Conventional Franciscan Friars and includes a retreat house, cafeteria and gift shop. The Shrine is open daily for Mass as well as reconciliation, devotions.
Since 1875, countless pilgrims have journeyed to the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio to offer prayers of thanks and to confide their needs to the Mother of God as Mary, Consoler of the Afflicted.
The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation is a place of great peace where pilgrims can pray and pay homage to the Blessed Mother. Across the street from the Basilica stands the original Shrine Church.
Carey, a town birthed by the railroad in 1858 and situated along the tracks connecting Lake Erie to the Ohio River, was an unlikely location for the development of one of the most significant Marian shrines in the U.S., the National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation.
