9 Φεβ 2024 · Originally called Southside House, Carter House is believed to be one of the oldest vernacular farmhouses not only in St David’s but also in all of Bermuda. It has survived largely in its original structure and form for over three centuries.
The house is a classic early Bermuda vernacular structure and certainly in a beautiful setting. It houses a museum exhibiting the history, people and culture of the unique St Davids islanders. It has the best exhibit of Palmetto products in Bermuda (a dying art) as well as 18th century tools.

Roofs were guttered and tanks built to catch and store rainwater. Tray ceilings created taller, cooler interior spaces. Chimneys buttressed the windward walls.
