Catch Wrestling vs Judo One of the 20th century’s first major cross-cultural clash of styles in Martial Arts, occurring between the American catch wrestler Ad Santel and the Japanese Tokugoro Ito, a 5th degree black belt in Judo.
Personally, I prefer Catch Wrestling because it's fundamentally well rounded. It has wrestling, standing submissions, ground submissions (which includes neck cranks and spine locks), and basically has an aggresive approach.
An effective Judo pin would only get you 2+1 exposure points in Wrestling, while an effective wrestling pin wouldn't be able to keep someone down for an Ippon in Judo. It does put Judo in between catch and BJJ however.
People talk about how much deeper the talent pool in wrestling and judo is compared to BJJ, but the situation is a hundred times as bad for catch. In principle there's no reason catch couldn't produce really good grapplers, there just aren't enough people doing it.
