Melena, or tarry black stool, is not a rare symptom in pediatric clinical practice, and the source of hemorrhage varies from the upper gastrointestinal tract to the small intestine. In rare cases, fatal bleeding may occur, thereby requiring the prompt identification and treatment of the bleeding source ( 1 ).
