The series originally aired from September 2006 through March 2008 and was one of the first modern shows revived thanks to a fan campaign.
The reason for the rushed ending was that the show was actually cancelled after the first season due to poor ratings. However, it was a cult hit and a number of fans protested the network to get another season commissioned.
After a large fan outcry [9] CBS ordered seven additional episodes for a trial second season, [10] which began airing on February 12, 2008 and ended on March 25, 2008. Though the second season received favorable reviews, [11] [12] it was ultimately canceled. [13]

Jericho is a classic example of what was and is wrong with the old way of thinking about TV productions. The first season was popular, but was cancelled...on an extreme cliffanger ending. a massive F-U to anyone who watched the show.
