Jericho ran from September 20, 2006, to March 25, 2008, on CBS. It was cancelled after its first full season because of low ratings. A fan campaign persuaded the network to bring the show back for another season, of seven episodes, after which it was cancelled again.
The reason for the rushed ending was that the show was actually cancelled after the first season due to poor ratings. However, it was a cult hit and a number of fans protested the network to get another season commissioned.
Jericho was a much better take on post apocalyptic life than walking dead was, but the problem they had was the studio cancelling them. Season 2 was so monumentally shit compared to the first one, and I didn't even get around to buying or reading the comics for season 3.
