HISTORY AND ORIGIN OF ILOCANO. Ilocano, also spelled Ilokano, or Ilokan, also called Iloko, or Iloco, third largest ethnolinguistic group in the Philippines. When discovered by the Spanish in the 16th century, they occupied the narrow coastal plain of northwestern Luzon, known as the Ilocos region.
The Ilocano people are an ethnolinguistic group native to the northwestern coast of Luzon in the Philippines. They numbered around 7 million as of 2000 and speak the Ilocano language. Historically, the Ilocano coastal region was linked by sailboats and spoke a lingua franca called Samtoy.

First, this paper will argue on replacing “philosophy” with the Iluko term “Panagmennamenna” as Ilokano critical thinking. Second, this paper will introduce “Panagtagikua” (owning) as the first objective of “panagmennamenna” since the Ilokano is a colonized world.
