22 Αυγ 2023 · What happens if a juror does not report for jury service? Jury duty, like paying taxes, is mandatory. Skipping jury duty can result in civil or criminal penalties. In addition, anyone who skips jury service will be assigned a new date for future jury service. What accommodations are available for jurors with disabilities?
How to Apply for a Postponement or Excusal. If you have had no prior postponements, and would like to automatically file for your first postponement now, you can apply by phone at 1-800-449-2819 or on the web at www.nyjuror.gov. All applications for postponements must be submitted prior to the date of jury service.
You can get information about jury duty for City, State, and Federal courts in New York City, including State Supreme Courts.
For information about jury service in the State of New York, including a Handbook explaining jury service and answering common questions, visit www.nyjuror.gov. Residents of New York County may be summoned to serve jury duty in trials, civil and criminal, in the County, or to serve on a grand jury.
