I decided to get a lip reduction surgery for dry and peeling lips. I've had the condition since 2008. since 2017 the buildup has gotten less severe and the peeling less frequent. I told the plastic surgeon that I didn't want to remove lip volume, only the affected dry skin.
Actinic cheilitis is a form of actinic keratosis (a scaly spot on the skin) occuring on the lips due to chronic sun exposure. The lips are more vulnerable than surrounding skin because mucosal epithelium is thinner and less pigmented than the epidermis.
