  1. 14 Φεβ 2024 · The equilibrium constant for a dissolution reaction, called the solubility product (K sp), is a measure of the solubility of a compound. Whereas solubility is usually expressed in terms of mass of solute per 100 mL of solvent, K sp is defined in terms of the molar concentrations of the component ions.

  2. sp K is a useful parameter for calculating the aqueous solubility of sparingly soluble compounds under various conditions. It may be determined by direct measure-ment or calculated from the standard Gibbs energies of formation ∆fG° of the species involved at their standard states.

  3. Chapter 26. Appendix B: Solubility-Product Constants (Ksp) for Compounds at 25°C. Source of data: CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, 84th Edition (2004); sulfide data from Lange’s Handbook of Chemistry, 15th Edition (1999).

  4. The term solubility always refers to the amount of solid (either in moles or grams) that actually does dissolve in solution, producing ions; this amount can be calculated for a particular solid.

  5. The Ksp expression for Al2S3 is the product of the concentrations of the ions, with each concentration raised to a power equal to the coefficient of that ion in it's balanced dissociation equation thus : Ksp = [Al3+ ]2[S2- ]3. and do the same with any other salt e.g for CaF2 , Ksp = [Ca2+ ][F- ]2 and so on . Saturated solution of CaF2.

  6. Learning Objectives. To calculate the solubility of an ionic compound from its Ksp. We begin our discussion of solubility and complexation equilibria—those associated with the formation of complex ions—by developing quantitative methods for describing dissolution and precipitation reactions of ionic compounds in aqueous solution.

  7. Ksp? Step 1: write the balanced chemical equation based on your knowledge of valences: AgBr(s) ↔ Ag+(aq) + Br–(aq) Step 2: solve problem using RICE chart. Ksp = [Ag+(aq)][Br–(aq)] Ksp = [7.1x10–7][7.1x10–7] = 5.0 x 10–13. Ksp - molar solubility.
