Chiapas, covering an area of 28,653 square miles (74,211 square kilometers), has a rugged landscape dominated by the Chiapas Highlands. Almost the entire state is forested, including the vast Lacondón rainforest in the east. The climate is tropical, though it varies depending on the land.
