Court House Place was built in 1893. Designed by early Chicago architect Otto H. Matz in Romanesque style, the arched entry, corner tourelles, arcade windows and rusticated stone create a structure of imposing monumentality.
The George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse is home to both the Criminal Division and Pretrial Division. The Criminal Court Administration building is also attached to the courthouse and shares the same security entrance.

Courthouse Place, also known as the former Cook County Criminal Court Building, is a Richardsonian Romanesque-style building at 54 West Hubbard Street in the Near North Side of Chicago. Now a commercial office building, it originally served as a noted courthouse.
Matters concerning habeas corpus, petitions to expunge, petitions to seal, post-conviction relief, the filing of notice of appeals, identity theft, certificate of good conduct and an array of motions for felony trial cases in the City of Chicago are heard by judges assigned to this division.
