The Chicago Police and Firefighter Training Academy (CPFTA) program provides training for students interested in careers in public safety, law enforcement, criminal justice, and fire science.
Attend classes two days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday) from 4:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at the Chicago Police Academy or the Chicago Fire Academy during the school year. Possible opportunity for summer internship between junior and senior year. Opportunity to earn scholarships with CPFTA.
Chicago Police and Firefighter Training Academy (CPFTA) courses are for juniors and seniors. Students in this citywide program meet after school every Tuesday and Wednesday during the school year. CPFTA recruits and trains up to 125 public and non-public high school students each year.
The Junior Police Academy provides the resources police officers need to build a bond of trust and friendship with young people. A course for police officers to master teaching skills. Interactive digital units to bring the world of law enforcement to life.

The Chicago Police Department places a strong focus on engagement with the city’s youth. The Department actively engages with the city’s youth to increase trust through strategies that positively engage and invest in youth development through a mentoring model of youth-police engagement.
