The Chicago Police Department’s (CPD) Education and Training Division provides basic peace officer’s training for all law enforcement agencies in Illinois. The program that provides the basic peace officer’s training is called the Basic Metropolitan Recruit Program.

Attend classes two days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday) from 4:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at the Chicago Police Academy or the Chicago Fire Academy during the school year. Possible opportunity for summer internship between junior and senior year. Opportunity to earn scholarships with CPFTA.

Chicago Police and Firefighter Training Academy (CPFTA) courses are for juniors and seniors. Students in this citywide program meet after school every Tuesday and Wednesday during the school year. CPFTA recruits and trains up to 125 public and non-public high school students each year.
