The Chicago Police and Firefighter Training Academy (CPFTA) program provides training for students interested in careers in public safety, law enforcement, criminal justice, and fire science.
The Chicago Police Department’s (CPD) Education and Training Division provides basic peace officer’s training for its CPD recruits. This program provides over 900 hours of basic recruit training to all CPD recruits and prepares each CPD recruit to pass the Illinois State Peace Officer’s Certification Exam.

Chicago Police and Firefighter Training Academy (CPFTA) courses are for juniors and seniors. Students in this citywide program meet after school every Tuesday and Wednesday during the school year. CPFTA recruits and trains up to 125 public and non-public high school students each year.
The Chicago Police Department will be hosting FREE work-out sessions at the Chicago Police Training Academy (see schedule below). Be a current Police Officer applicant. Complete a waiver form (forms are available on-line and on-site). Face mask or cloth coverings are required.

Chicago has the second-largest Police Department in the nation, with over 12,000 officers dedicated to protecting the lives, property, and rights of all people.
