Chickenpox, also called varicella, is a highly infectious illness. It is caused by varicella-zoster virus, one of a group of herpes viruses.
What are the symptoms of chicken pox in babies? The main symptom of chicken pox is a rash that appears in groups of raised red spots which develop into fluid-filled blisters. These blisters break and form scabs which will eventually drop off.
Chickenpox is an infection caused by the varicella zoster virus which is characterised by a vesicular rash. In most children its course is benign but, in some cases, it can be severe and result in significant complications. The infectious period lasts from 24 hours before the onset of the rash until all the vesicular lesions are crusted.
