The following photos demonstrate damage that is being attributed to the Chilli Thrips, Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood. This pest was found attacking roses in Palm Beach County. Serious problems with thrips have also been noted in the Orlando area.
Chilli thrips can be controlled via a range of products registered to treat other species of thrips. Dr Hardie urged gardeners to inspect their plants for damage symptoms and take immediate action to minimise the pest’s impact.
