We study the development of prices, inequality and poverty from 1995 to 2002, a period characterized by both the establishment of the “socialist market economy” – an official embrace of a more market-oriented economy – and high economic performance through high growth. This paper reports three main findings.
This article mobilizes new time series data on real wages, physical heights and age-heaping to examine long-term trend of living standards and human capital for China during 18-20th century. Our findings confirm that gaps in living standards already.
27 Οκτ 2021 · The top five most satisfying life domains among the Chinese are standard of living, marriage, friendship, health, and family life according to the 2005 to 2007 Asian Barometer Survey (ABS) (Shu and Zhu 2009). The bottom five domains are the social welfare system, the democratic system, public safety, household income, and job.
Based on a unique source of data which is available only to Chinese scholars, this book showcases key issues on people's livelihood and social construction in Contemporary China, including income disparity, social security system, employment situation, post-80s generation and so on.
