In 2020, Pew estimated the number of Christians worldwide to be around 2.38 billion. [2] According to various scholars and sources, high birth rates and conversions in the Global South were cited as the reasons for the Christian population growth.
Two religions—Christianity and Islam—dominate religious demograph-ics at present and seem poised to continue that dominance in the future. In 1900, these two religions represented less than 50% of the world’s population; it appears that by 2050, they will claim over 63% (table 1).
The World Religion Database (WRD), edited by Todd Johnson and Brian Grim, contains detailed statistics on religious affiliation for every country in the world. It is the major source to render a definitive picture of international religious demography.
