15 Αυγ 2011 · When a Catalyst switch is running CatOS for Layer 2 it is called Hybrid mode – if the switch is running IOS for Layer 2 and Layer 3, it is called Native mode.
4 Σεπ 2008 · I am trying to configure a Layer-3 etherchannel between a 6500 running CATOS (with MSFC Layer-3 card) and a 6500 IOS device. It works fine when its just a Layer-2 etherchannel at each end, but I can't get the Layer-3 working. Can anyone advise what is wrong, or how this should be configured? 09-04-2008 05:22 AM. Phil.
17 Μαΐ 2011 · In terms of Catalyst switches - CatOS only works at L2, although it has enough smarts to be able to have a management vlan that you can connect to for managing the switch. So with CatOS you can only configure L2 config such as STP/VTP/switchport vlan membership etc.
2 Ιουλ 2009 · Cisco IOS Software has historically been a Layer 3 operating system on routing platforms, and when installed on the supervisor engine of a Cisco Catalyst 6500 has expanded these capabilities to include true Layer 2 functionality as well.
CatOS is a Unix-like operating system for many legacy Cisco switches. CatOS runs on the following switch series: 1200, 4000, 4500, 5000, 5500, 6000 and 6500. Some of the high end switches such as the Catalyst 6500 series still run CatOS. User mode is used for system monitoring. Priviledged (enable) mode is used to change all system configurations.
