The Chihuahuan Desert (Spanish: Desierto de Chihuahua, Desierto Chihuahuense) is a desert ecoregion designation covering parts of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States.
The Chihuahuan is the largest desert in North America-stretching all the way from the southwestern United States deep into the Central Mexican Highlands. WWF's conservation efforts focus on the Big Bend region of the northern Chihuahuan Desert, which includes important parts of the Rio Grande/Bravo watershed in the U.S. and Mexico.

Big Bend National Park is a national park of the United States located in West Texas, bordering Mexico. The park has national significance as the largest protected area of Chihuahuan Desert topography and ecology in the United States, [ 3 ] and was named after a large bend in the Rio Grande/Río Bravo. [ 4 ]
It is the largest desert in North America and is located between two of Mexico’s largest mountain ranges called the eastern and western Sierra Madre. Like most deserts, the Chihuahuan’s weather is harsh, blistering daytime temperatures and below-freezing temperatures at night.

Other significant rivers in the desert include the Rio Conchos, which joins the Rio Grande after beginning in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains.
