Animal licensing is an essential part of animal care and control in our community. License fees support the return of lost dogs and cats to their homes and help adopt homeless dogs and cats to new families.
City Fee Schedule. Important Note: The fees listed in this schedule may be subject to an administrative fee per Code Section 1-14. Check with the City Department under which the fee is listed. The department may be contacted using the "Contact Us" button on the schedule or by calling 311.
Pet owners will continue to receive annual notices for license renewal but it will not be necessary to submit a vaccination certificate each year to renew the license. If you use the triennial vaccine you will receive a notice on the third year reminding you it is necessary to revaccinate your pet.
Effective January 1, 2024, building inspection, plan review, licenses, and permit fees, including the administrative fee, have automatically increased by 2.662727%.
To register your pet, you must submit a current rabies certificate signed by a licensed veterinarian, proof of spay/neuter (if applicable), proof of a registered microchip, and pay the registration fee.
A renewal invoice is mailed 30 to 45 days prior to the expiration date (December 31st). It is the responsibility of the owner or operator to contact BARC Animal Enforcement prior to expiration date if an invoice is not received.
Keep your pet legal. All cats and dogs in unincorporated Harris County over the age of 3-months are required to maintain a pet license through the county. Violations of Harris County animal regulations can result in a citation and fine up to $500.
