The fee prescribed by law may be submitted with such application. The applicant shall furnish such proof of identity, age, and fitness as may be required by the commissioner.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS. You must provide proof of your date of birth and proof of your name. The documents you submit to prove your name must have a total point value of 6 points.
If you are a U.S. citizen and New York State resident, you can apply for a New York State Enhanced License, Permit, or Non-Driver ID that can be used instead of a passport to return to the US by land or sea from Canada, Mexico, and some countries in the Caribbean.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PROOF OF IDENTITY. Before NYS DMV will issue any photo document (learner permit, driver license, non-driver ID Card) for the first time, or if your document expired more than 2 years ago, you must show the following proofs to NYS DMV: Proof of your date of birth.
