Purposes of Assessment. The major purposes of student assessment and evaluation are to improve student learning and guide students, their parents/guardians, teachers, and others with a legitimate need to help students to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes as stated in the programs of study.
This document presents a set of classroom assessment principles intended as a resource for practitioners, especially school leaders and district and state policymakers. Together these principles articulate a shared vision for effective classroom assessment practices.

Analytic rubrics are considered the gold standard in assessment (Suskie, 2009) and have become the go-to tool for all performance-based assessments (e.g., essays, presentations, and projects). They are used in all classroom teaching contexts, from elementary to college classrooms (Jeong, 2015).
Teachers can use one assessment strategy, change or adapt the instruction, and then reassess using the same strategy or a different one to determine if the instructional practice is impacting student achievement.
It provides faculty with feedback about their effectiveness as teachers, and it gives students a measure of their progress as learners. The aim of classroom assessments is to provide faculty with information on what, how much, and how well students are learning.
The CATS in this group focus on problem solving skills of various kinds—recognition of types of problems, determining principles and techniques to solve, perceiving similarities of problem features and ability to reflect and then alter solution strategies.
