More storage is always helpful but realistically for computer science 256gb is fine. The extra it would cost to get 512gb is a lot for anyone let alone a student. I would recommend buying an external 512gb/1TB ssd hdd drive and store backups and finished projects on there.

If you're worried about the chipset, I'd just go with a modern laptop that runs Windows. You'll be able to get more RAM and disk for your money as well. If a unix-based environment is needed, you can always run a VM on your PC with all that extra RAM you got by not purchasing a macbook.
