Eligibility varies from State to State. Medicaid is the nation’s largest payer of mental health services, long-term care services, and births. Medicaid pays for 40 percent of all births. Individuals must meet eligibility requirements and State rules.
Ensuring states’ compliance with federal renewal requirements is core to CMS’ stewardship of the Medicaid program and essential to protecting eligible individuals’ ability to maintain coverage.
Federal law requires states to cover certain eligibility groups and provides them the flexibility to cover others. Enrollees must meet state eligibility requirements. For many eligibility groups, people must meet certain income and resource limits. Medicaid.gov has more information and resources.
