Carbon Dioxide + Magnesium Hydroxide = Pokrovskite + Water. CO2 + Mg(OH)2 = Mg2(CO3)(OH)2 + H2O is a Double Displacement (Metathesis) reaction where one mole of Carbon Dioxide [CO 2] and two moles of Magnesium Hydroxide [Mg(OH) 2] react to form one mole of Pokrovskite [Mg 2 (CO 3)(OH) 2] and one mole of Water [H 2 O]
In order to balance C on both sides we: Multiply coefficient for CO 2 by 2. 2 CO 2 + 1 Mg (OH) 2 = 1 Mg (HCO 3) 2. Mg is balanced: 1 atom in reagents and 1 atom in products. H is balanced: 2 atoms in reagents and 2 atoms in products. O is balanced: 6 atoms in reagents and 6 atoms in products.

25 Αυγ 2019 · Abstract. The formation of MgCO 3 ·3H 2 O in the CO 2 mineralization system was investigated using Mg (OH) 2 as an intermediate at 20 °C. Liquid and solid analyses were done for qualitative and quantitative composition characterizations of the reacted samples.
30 Μαρ 2022 · A comparison of the energy barriers and reaction pathways of these mechanisms shows that the carbonation of MgO is hindered by the presence of H 2 O molecules, while the carbonation of Mg (OH) 2 is hindered by the formation of initial carbonate and hydrate layers as well as presence of excessed H 2 O molecules.
