  1. 10 Αυγ 2022 · Coagulase test is used to differentiate Staphylococcus aureus (positive) which produce the enzyme coagulase, from S. epidermis and S. saprophyticus (negative) which do not produce coagulase. i.e Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus (CONS).

  2. The coagulase-positive staphylococci constitute the most pathogenic species S aureus. The coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) are now known to comprise over 30 other species. The CNS are common commensals of skin, although some species can cause infections.

  3. For a negative tube coagulase test from catalase-positive, Gram-positive cocci in clusters that have creamy white colonies, report as “coagulase-negative staphylococci.” A positive slide coagulase test can be reported as S. aureus; however, the test should be confirmed with a tube test from nonhemolytic or only slightly hemolytic colonies ...

  4. 1 Ιαν 2018 · Staphylococci continue to be the leading cause of many human infections. Along with S. aureus and other coagulase-positive strains, whose pathogenicity and mechanisms of virulence are well elucidated, the coagulase negative species has recently garnered more attention. Albeit less virulent than coagulase-positive isolates (they express a ...

  5. The ability to clot blood by producing coagulase distinguishes the virulent pathogen, Staphylococcus aureus, from the less virulent coagulase-negative staphylococcal species. Coagulase-positive S. aureus is among the most ubiquitous and dangerous human pathogens, for both its virulence and its ability to develop antibiotic resistance.

  6. The conventional microbiology testing (n = 116 samples) yielded positive results for S. aureus in 32 cases and negative results in 84 cases, while real‐time PCR (n = 116 samples) had positive results for S. aureus in 55 cases and negative results in 61 cases (Table 1).

  7. The coagulase test differentiates strains of Staphylococcus aureus from S. epidermidis and other coagulase-negative species. S. aureus strains are usually capable of coagulating EDTA-treated plasma in the tube test and will produce clumps of cells in the slide test.
