22 Μαΐ 2024 · Bladder stones can form over time, usually several weeks to a few months. It can take weeks or even months for them to resolve and heal fully. However, a bladder obstruction can be life-threatening. If treatment is not sought right away, dogs can be in big trouble in just a few days.
The most common signs of bladder stones in dogs are: blood in the urine (called hematuria) and; straining to urinate (called dysuria). Bleeding occurs because the stones rub against the bladder wall, irritating and damaging the tissues.
In dogs, struvite stones are typically caused by UTIs and urease-producing bacteria. Struvite crystals form when the pH of urine becomes more alkaline and concentrated. When these changes occur, certain substances become supersaturated and promote the growth of struvite crystals.
