The Cobra 2000 GTL isn’t known to be a powerhouse, but it is famous for its amazing receive. These radios have a super quiet receive that can picks out those far off stations. Until you’ve tried one it’s really hard to understand how nice they are to listen to.

These radios got modified for more power output and even Ham Radio Crystal Filters were installed to increase the selectivity of the receiver, and I heard of a modified receiver front end but never saw one.

SSB receive is very clear – the radio stays on frequency for receive very well – no drift whatsoever from turn on to turn off. Many of the SSB stations sounded so clear that I thought I was on AM.
The Cobra® 148 GTL is a full featured radio with 4 watt AM and 12 watt SSB operation. Over the years, Cobra® has done a good job keeping the CB radio models that work in production.
