30 Ιουλ 2016 · Location:Sarasota, Florida 9B/10A. Posted August 1, 2016. I think the above map is pretty accurate, at least on the west coast. I'm in 10a/9b near the bay in Sarasota, Florida. About 45 minutes south of St. Petersburg, which is pictured on the map. We have 3 coconuts which we planted in 2005.
Coconut palms (Cocos nucifera Linn) are the most ubiquitous symbol of the tropics and distributed throughout the world. In Florida, these palms are located along the east and west coasts. Coconut palms are not only an important horticulture palm but are also the most economically important palm worldwide.
Coconut palms grow in tropical climates, so regions which fall in the 25 degrees Northern latitude or 25 degrees Southern altitude, are perfect for the coconut palm to thrive in. This would include places like the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands, Australia, INdonesia or even Florida.
20 Αυγ 2023 · Counties such as Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach are home to numerous coconut groves, where these iconic trees can be found stretching their branches towards the sky. In South Florida, you will find a diverse range of coconut tree varieties, including the popular Malayan Dwarf and Maypan varieties.
These palms are very salt-tolerant and make perfect beachside plantings. They can be sensitive to cold and do best in Zone 10B and coastal areas of 10A. Coconut palms are said to be deer resistant, though we make no promises.
18 Ιαν 2016 · The inland limit for coconut palms in the Valley is the McAllen/Edinburg area, but Zone 10A does extend considerably farther inland in the Valley than it does in Central Florida, probably because the dessert is just west of there and the mountains of northern Mexico just west from there.
