Aim: This paper aims to convey experience of using Colaizzi's (1978) strategy of descriptive phenomenological data analysis in a nursing research. Method: Using a real research example, the process of Colaizzi was used to provide assistance in extracting, organizing, and analyzing such narrative dataset.

We focus here on a method proposed by Colaizzi (1978), which is little-known in psychology but widely used in other disciplines such as the health sciences. We argue that the method has considerable potential for qualitative psychologists, especially those coming fresh to descriptive phenomenology.
