7 Μαΐ 2024 · On July 15, 1663, Dyer was finally able to secure a Royal Charter for Rhode Island, when King Charles II granted the Charter of “Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.” The charter allowed the inhabitants of Rhode Island to govern themselves and it also guaranteed Religious Freedom.

Like these other early colonial constitutions, the Acts and Orders creates a federal system wherein the towns composing it continue to have functioning governments with their own powers and competencies. In 1663 Rhode Island received a new charter from the king, which essentially ratified the government established by the Acts and Orders.
2 Αυγ 2020 · The first charter was validated by British Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell in 1644 and that became the basis of government in Rhode Island colony in 1647. In 1651, Coddington obtained a separate charter, but protests led to the reinstatement of the original charter.
The Rhode Island Royal Charter provided royal recognition to the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, approved by England's King Charles II in July 1663. It superseded the 1643 Patent for Settlement and outlined many freedoms for the inhabitants of Rhode Island.
