6 Οκτ 2014 · Earliest Use of Coltrock Grips. I know that we are lucky to have several very advanced 1911 Collectors on this forum and have been wanting to get an opinion regarding earlier Coltrock plastic grips not the later Coltwood plastic grips.
12 Μαρ 2011 · Colt early M1911 grips 1912 to 1919. Then you have several variations from 1923 thru 1945 for the M1911 Improved Model to M1911A1.
25 Απρ 2010 · With the exception of Colts, the grips were made by Keyes. They have a star on the back side with a mold number. Colts made their own similar in color and design they were called Coltwood and Coltrock.

On page 43 of Clawson's small book under M1911A1 Production During 1940 it states that plastic stocks were introduced in 1940.
25 Δεκ 2005 · Colt offered a variety of items made from Coltrock prior to it's use as grips on the 1911A1 pistol, but it proved entirely too brittle for use as pistol grips. Almost immediately Colt withdrew the Coltrock grips from use, and later came out with a modified grip material called Coltwood.
