In all fairness, Comet makes no grand claims about the CHA250B, calling it a compromise antenna suitable for tight spaces or portable operation and covering 6M to 80M with good SWR on amateur bands. They recommend putting it up at lease 35 feet and adding a common mode choke to the feedline.
“The Comet CHA-250B is a newly design broadband vertical with NO GROUND RADIALS. This antenna is EXTREMELY easy to assemble, requires no tuning or adjustments and VSWR is under 1.6:1 from 3.5MHz – 57MHz!”
26 Ιαν 2014 · I was doing some testing of a CHA-250B. I know some of you will call it a dummy load and not a good antenna; but lets put that aside and consider the performance difference I'm seeing in two locations. Initially I had it about 30' from the house near the ground attached to a metal fence post.
Review Summary For : Comet CHA250B. Reviews: 139. MSRP: 449. Description: The Comet CHA250B broadband vertical antenna will amazingly cover 75/80 meters through 6 meters with no gaps! Transmit range is 3.5-57 MHz and receive range is 2-90 MHz. SWR <1.5:1.
26 Ιαν 2014 · On the CHA-250B, I couldn't hit the repeater...go figure. Parked in my driveway, the screwdriver antenna gets in just fine. The CHA-250B mounted at a higher elevation...and no love. I know the CHA-250B is a compromise antenna, but I was really shocked today when I did a side by side comparison.
23 Απρ 2011 · The Cobwebb only goes down to 20m, whereas the CHA250B covers down to 40m and also broadband across to 30MHz+. With a radial system the comet would improve. Also a horizontal antenna like Cobwebb needs a support pole. Vertical antennas get low angle takeoff when ground mounted.
8 Σεπ 2014 · The Comet is a relatively quiet antenna, a description often stated as a benefit but what that really means is lacking in signal strength. However, the useful measure on receive is signal to noise ratio and this was on par with other antennas.
