Biblical Commentary Proverbs 9:1-6 EXEGESIS: THE CONTEXT: WISDOM AND FOLLY. The book of Proverbs is generally considered to have eight sections, each introduced by a verse that usually gives the author of that particular collection.
1. (Proverbs 9:1-6) Wisdom’s generous invitation. Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars; She has slaughtered her meat, She has mixed her wine, She has also furnished her table. She has sent out her maidens, She cries out from the highest places of the city, “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
David Guzik commentary on Proverbs 9 describes wisdom’s feast and folly’s funeral. Wisdom is a generous host, but folly is stingy and brings ultimate death.

Pro 9:1-12. Wisdom is here introduced as a magnificent and munificent queen, very great and very generous; that Word of God is this Wisdom in which God makes known his goodwill towards men; God the Word is this Wisdom, to whom the Father has committed all judgment.
From Matthew Henry's Commentary. "There is no true wisdom but in the way of religion, no true life but in the end of that way. Here is the happiness of those that embrace it." From Wesley's Notes.
