Injuries in sporting dogs should be diagnosed promptly and specifically because management and prognosis vary based on the nature and severity of injuries.
Thousands of dogs are injured at racetracks each year. At American dog tracks, greyhounds routinely suffer serious injuries. From 2015 through 2023, a total of 7,523 greyhound injuries have been documented. The most commonly reported injury was a broken leg.
Most of the high performance athletes like racing and coursing dogs are likely to suffer some type of muscle injury during their career. Typical muscle skeletal injuries, such as contusions, lacerations, strains and complete tears usually occur either during the competition or training sessions.
Muscle injuries are the most common problem which cause lay off or down time from training and racing in a greyhound. However, there are a number of other conditions and ailments that can cause loss of training days, less than optimum performance and which can be difficult to recognise and manage.

1 Δεκ 2021 · Dogs who did the 2 ×2 weave training method had an increased risk of severe injury compared to the channel method or guide-wire method of training. It is possible that the 2 ×2 method requires more repetitions during training, thereby resulting in overuse or overtraining injuries.
