27 Ιουλ 2023 · Exposure to radiation also comes from human-made sources ranging from nuclear power generation to medical uses of radiation for diagnosis or treatment. Today, the most common human-made sources of ionizing radiation are medical devices, including x-ray machines and Computed Tomography (CT) scanners.
By far the largest source of natural radiation exposure comes from varying amounts of uranium and thorium in the soil around the world. The radiation exposure due to cosmic rays is very dependent on altitude, and slightly on latitude: people who travel by air, thereby, increase their exposure to radiation.
This fact sheet addresses the baseline sources of background ionizing radiation and other sources of radiation to which we are commonly exposed on a daily basis. Sources of Radiation. Background radiation is emitted from both natural and human-made radionuclides, or radioactive atoms. Some naturally occurring radiation comes from the atmosphere
People are exposed to radiation from cosmic rays, as well as to radioactive materials found in the soil, water, food, air and also inside the body. Human-made radiation sources are widely used in medicine, industry, and research. There are two types of radiation: ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.
20 Οκτ 2022 · The seven low-dose exposure sources described in this chapter involve different types of ionizing radiation (e.g., alpha, beta, and gamma radiation), routes of exposure (internal and external), and durations of exposure (acute or protracted), as summarized in Table 2.1.
8 Μαΐ 2019 · What are the sources of radiation exposure? Background radiation is all around us all the time. Most of it forms naturally from minerals. These radioactive minerals are in the ground, soil, water, and even our bodies. Background radiation can also come from outer space and the sun.
