The following countries are one-party states in which the institutions of the ruling communist party and the state have become intertwined. They are adherents of Marxism–Leninism. They are listed here together with the year of their founding and their respective ruling parties. [1]
While socialist parties have won many elections around the world and most elections in the Nordic countries, none of those countries have adopted socialism as a state ideology or written the party into the constitution. Several countries with liberal democratic constitutions mention socialism.
Communism seeks to create a classless society by replacing private ownership with public control of major production means, aiming for equal wealth distribution. As of 2021, the remaining Communist countries include China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, and Vietnam, each with unique adaptations of communist governance.
