Diclofenac sodium delayed-release tablets are in a pharmaceutic formulation that resists dissolution in the low pH of gastric fluid but allows a rapid release of drug in the higher pH-environment in the duodenum. Its pattern of drug release and absorption is illustrated below:
17 Φεβ 2020 · Oral: Immediate-release tablet: 50 mg 3 to 4 times daily; Delayed-release tablet: 50 mg 3 to 4 times daily or 75 mg twice daily; Extended-release tablet: 100 mg once daily; may increase to 100 mg twice daily.
Delayed drug release is commonly achieved via enteric coating of dosage forms such as tablets, capsules and multiparticulates [6, 7]. Typically, enteric coatings are pH activated, wherein they are insoluble at low pH but dissolved readily at higher pH (e.g., pH 5–7) [8] .
The enteric-coated tablet form of diclofenac is used to reduce pain, swelling (inflammation), and joint stiffness from arthritis. Reducing these symptoms helps you do more of your normal daily activities.
